  • 2 pounds Yukon gold potatoes
  • 3 cloves garlic
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a baking dish with butter.
  2. In a saucepan over medium heat, combine heavy cream, milk, minced garlic, salt, black pepper, and nutmeg. Heat until warm but not boiling.
  3. Layer half of the sliced potatoes in the baking dish and pour half of the cream mixture over them.
  4. Sprinkle half of both cheddar and Parmesan cheese over this layer.
  5. Repeat with remaining potatoes, topping with the rest of the cream mixture and cheese.
  6. Dot with butter, cover with foil, and bake for 40 minutes.
  7. Remove foil and bake for an additional 20 minutes until golden brown.
