  • 1 cup water
  • 5 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • ½ cup sour cream
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • For frosting: whole milk
  • confectioners’ sugar
  • vanilla extract
  • chopped pecans

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare a 10×15 inch baking pan.
  2. In a saucepan, melt butter with water and cocoa powder; bring to a boil and set aside.
  3. Whisk sour cream and eggs in a bowl until combined.
  4. In your stand mixer, blend flour, sugar, baking soda, and salt. Add the egg mixture and cooled chocolate mixture; mix until just combined.
  5. Pour batter into the prepared pan and bake for 22–25 minutes.
